Brutal truth of being a manager. I suppose there are similarities to a military commander who knows that some of the people under his/her command will die due to the commander’s leadership. A difference , to me, and I come from a medical background but have seen this in corporate medicine, is that when you fire those employees, tthe"higher good” is that you are helping give yourself a bonus and those of upper management and stockholders. Those you fired will likely lose health insurance, with resultant health issues, may have difficulty finding an equivalent job, and all to increase profit for those already on top. Some of those on the bottom will be destroyed. That does not matter I suppose. When you are on top you can pat yourself on the back for bravely crushing people. Congratulations, but this is still inherently immoral.
