So sad for him. Good that you have moved on/are moving on and processing this. I was married for 35 years to a woman who loved me intensely but was also physically abusive. She died, but attained some kind of peace before she passed, as I was with her. But I have been processing this complex relationship for the past 15 years. But, that is a learning experience, as you show in your writing.
