You are probably right. I am not mainly prone to violence, but I do think that women are often taught to just "take it," not that a man must always defend her. But I have been in situations in which a woman was very much insulted, a couple times a friend and woman of color, and I defended her. Once I wanted to get physical but circumstances intervened. I am glad it turned out that way. In principle, being non-violent is good. In reality? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
